Community Supervision Officers

 

Community Supervision Officers (CSOs) are the core of the Court Services and Offender Supervision Agency (CSOSA) mission.  They work out of field offices and learning labs in neighborhoods where the offender population is concentrated.  At each location, CSOs focus on assessing supervised offenders' risks and working in partnership with law enforcement and community-based organizations to provide offenders with the opportunities they need to be able to contribute to their family, the workforce, and the community.
 
Depending on the location of the position, compensation for Community Supervision Officer positions will range between:
 
  • Entry Level – $41,210 and $59,333
 
  • Intermediate Level – $50,408 and $79,280
 
  • Senior Level – $73,100 and $95,026
 
 
To qualify for an ENTRY LEVEL Community Supervision Officer position, you must have:
 
A bachelor's degree in behavioral or social science, or in a related discipline.
 
OR
 
4 years of experience that demonstrated knowledge of one or more of the behavioral or social sciences equivalent to a major in the field.  For instance, this experience could be gained by providing technical or administrative support to a senior professional in conducting studies, projects, or surveys in the area of specialty.
 
OR
 
A combination of similar experience and academic coursework.
 
 
To qualify for an INTERMEDIATE LEVEL Community Supervision Officer position, you must have:
 
A bachelor's degree in behavioral or social science, or in a related discipline.
 
OR
 
4 years of experience that demonstrated knowledge of one or more of the behavioral or social sciences equivalent to a major in the field.  For instance, this experience could be gained providing technical or administrative support to a senior professional in conducting studies, projects, or surveys in the area of specialty.
 
OR
 
A combination of similar experience and academic coursework.
 
AND
 
Doctorate or at least three years of graduate level education in corrections or a related field, such as criminal justice, sociology, psychology, counseling, social work, or other course work related to the position.
 
OR
 
1 year of specialized experience that provided knowledge of a wide range of theories, principles, and practices of the field of psycho-social and behavioral sciences applicable to criminal behavior and community supervision programs.  For instance, this experience could be gained by following established procedures to assist with the management of community supervision cases.
 
 
To qualify for a SENIOR LEVEL Community Supervision Officer position, you must have:
 
Bachelor's degree in behavioral or social science, or in a related discipline.
 
OR
 
4 years of experience that demonstrated knowledge of one or more of the behavioral or social sciences equivalent to a major in the field.  For instance, this experience could be gained by providing technical or administrative support to a senior professional in conducting studies, projects, or surveys in the area of specialty.
 
OR
 
A combination of similar experience and academic coursework.
 
AND
 
1 year of specialized experience that involved particularly difficult problems that were systemic in nature, in which the work directly affected a wide range of agency activities and operations.  For instance, this experience could be gained by collaborating in managing offender cases, conducting difficult investigations and preparing reports.
